Overcast clouded the once clear skies as evening overcame, a slight wind brushing through the open air, rustling through the green foliage of the trees and brush, bringing forth a new coldness. It was finally winter in Konohagakure, from the rain that drizzled down from  grey clouds, to the bright moon that moved in quickly after the sun early in the evening.
Trapped in the comfort of her warm home, Tsukiko combed through her closet and drawers, pulling clothes out here and there every so often. Other clothes that she had disregarded lay crumpled around her feet, spread over the floor, which she would pick up later and return to their correct places. For now, she stuffed what clothes she liked into her sack, trying to be as neat as possible in an attempt to save space for other necessities.

She couldn’t help her excitement, however, upon the news of being granted a vacation. Finally, some time off for her and Yamato! Said man was currently on patrol duty around the village, but would be home before midnight, so he could rest before they left in the morning, as well.

It had been so long since Tsukiko had any alone time with her husband, even more that she had been traveling! Since they were in the holiday spirits, they decided upon taking a short four-day long vacation in Yukigakure where their spirits were sure to go to good efforts. Tsukiko imagined the white, blanket snow and the crisp air, almost shivering at the same time, before returning to packing for the next morning.
Even later that night as she lay silently awake in bed, anticipating the next morning as she waited for her husband to return, the scent of warm tea and spices lingered in her mind, almost able to taste the steaming hot chocolate slipping down her throat. The thoughts of spending days warming up with her husband in the cool, northern air seemed too real, already, for her own good.

As promised, Tsukiko and Yamato woke the next morning with anticipations to start their vacation in the northern Snow country, leaving the house when they were finally ready. At the gates, Kakashi had been nice enough to greet them to see them off, wishing them a good trip together. Even Naruto and Sakura had make the exception to send them off with good wishes, reminding them to tell them all about it when they got back.
In the undertone of their voices, you could tell they wished they themselves were going off to rest and relax for half a week, rather than heading out on another mission!

It takes the couple the next day and a half to reach the Snow country, where they are finally able to rest after checking in with the owner of the various cabins spread across the snowy plains of the town. After thanking the elderly man and paying for their stay in advance, Tsukiko and Yamato eagerly head to the welcoming cabin which opens with a key attained by the owner. The inside is cool with a slight breeze without the fireplace alit and a comforting pull lures the two in as they gingerly step inside. It feels the way a home should, where you come home and feel at ease, unraveling from all the knots of worry that you have tangled yourself in.

After some exploring of the cabin and relaxing, Yamato and Tsukiko retrieved their shoes and jackets once again as they head outside to find wood for the fireplace. As they walk, the dreary sky continues to shed some light as the dim, grey clouds roll past, bringing forth more feathery touches of snowflakes that wander across the empty air. Still in awe of the scenery, Tsukiko links her arm into her husband’s elbow, continuing their journey to retrieve some firewood- although all they seem to be in search of is the beauty held in the atmosphere around them.

Tsukiko stifled a laugh as she stared befuddled at her husband, fuming with irritation, the smell of burnt cookies lingering in the kitchenette air. “I thought they just needed a few more minutes,” Yamato rambles in defending himself, but it only piques his wife’s attention further as she steps forward, wiping away a cloud of flour from Yamato’s cheek as she gingerly kisses his jaw.

“It’s okay,” she assures him, as she takes a careful hold of the hot cookie tray with the oven mittens, tossing the crisped spice cookies into the nearby trash can.
“We can make some more cookies later,” Tsukiko tells him as she circles her arms around his waist, a smile still present at her lips when she holds back another giggle. “But this time I’ll watch the clock.”

Yamato sighs and presses his lips to Tsukiko’s forehead, whilst looping his arm across her shoulders, bringing her closer, though his cheeks are still alit with a vexing pink hue. His hands palm over her spine as the charcoal cookies burn away from their memory, more focused on other things than a mere mishap of Yamato’s unfortunate baking skills.

~

Morning roused the day to begin as sunlight peeked through the sheer curtains, hiding the fogged glass windows. A sliver of light traveled across the wooden flooring and woke Yamato sternly, now groaning in protest, winding himself further beneath the sheets to escape it. Beside him, Tsukiko still lay serenely in the large, double futon arranged in the centre of the room.
Yamato’s fingers danced across Tsukiko’s bare arm, as she shivered involuntarily, assuming his hands were just as cold as it may have been outside! Facing her, Yamato wound his fingers in her auburn locks, curling a piece around his index finger as she continued to snooze away. Certainly, his baking disaster was not all in vain and had befriended the two with their activities later; more or less being forgotten soon after.

Without further notice, Tsukiko herself had silently woken up, now curled against her husband as they bathed in the silence. Occasionally, Tsukiko would place a kiss at her husband’s jaw, or Yamato would pluck a kiss at her lips tenderly before returning to relaxing on their own accounts, simply enjoying each others presence. He realized it was already the second-to-last day of their short vacation, although assuming they would maybe use half of their last to start their journey back to the Leaf, their time was cut much shorter.

However, the moments that poured around them currently seemed timeless. Albeit the sun was risen and streaks of its light continuously danced across the minimal furniture, rising with the time, it seemed like an eternity that they lay in their futon, curled together.
He knew of the plans he and Tsukiko decided on for that day, which would come later on, but neither seemed too worried about it when they got to bask in one another’s tranquil prescence, together. Or how the clock continued to tick away past eight, already, both relaxing upon the thought that there was no where to be, nothing they had to do. No missions, no orders nor duties to fulfill.

All seemed at peace in their small, little forever.
~

After a day of plowing and playing through the snow, Tsukiko and Yamato returned to their small residence for the next forty-eight hours they had left, deciding to call it a night when the sky had finally shifted and the moon appeared past the glum clouds. Returning to the warmth of the cabin, Tsukiko shed her jacket and shoes, leaving to unpack her change of clothes for the night.
Tomorrow would be their last day on their leave before they would have to return to Konoha, as well as to their daily lives they had managed themselves to. Their duties, whether it was patrolling, missions or other assignments given by the Hokage to fulfill. She was grateful for this week they had been given, despite how short-lived it may have been. Turning to her husband after tugging on a tee-shirt to her form, she smiled inwardly before leaning so that her back rested against his own.

Noticing the weight on his shoulders, Yamato turned to peek over his shoulder, before maneuvering around his wife so that her back was now pressed to his chest as they sat in blissful silence, gathered in front of the window that glanced to the evening sky, slowly adorning itself with stars. The parade of snow was no comparison to the grand moon that illuminated over the land, ghosting it’s features delicately while hiding other things behind its back.

Tsukiko held to her husband’s forearms that linked around her in an embrace, feeling her mind run blank as her eyes began to droop in fatigue. She was thankful for the forever he had given her so many times before, and would continue in their future. For the small infinities they shared together in the silence that they welcomed, not needing words to explain their thoughts. He was her own forever.
